We are thrilled to welcome Gabe Mitchell as a Research Specialist! Gabe has been part of the Bay Area community for quite some time. After completing his PhD thesis on S. aureus pathogenesis in the Malouin lab at Université de Sherbrooke in Québec, he moved to Berkeley and worked on the interaction between intracellular bacteria and host autophagy, first with Dan Portnoy and then with Jeff Cox. He then led an Open Innovation team at Novartis in Emeryville, where he focused on host-directed therapies and the liver phase of Plasmodium infection. Gabe is excited to be back working on bacterial pathogenesis and to support research in academia. He is also looking forward to getting back in shape by riding his bike home to his lovely family at the end of every lab day.
